Opening of the Exhibition: “The Main Room of a Dwelling in Holašovice in the 19th Century”

We cordially invite you to the festive opening of a new exhibition that takes you into the past and presents the unique world of the main room in a traditional Holašovice dwelling of the 19th century. The purpose of the exhibition is to showcase not only the architecture and furnishings of this central room, but above all, the way of life of the inhabitants at that time.

The main room of each house was the heart of the home, the place where the whole family gathered, cooked, dined, and relaxed. Visitors can view period furniture and decorative elements that contributed to the cozy atmosphere of the rural dwelling.

Our exhibition pays attention to the meals of that time. You will find out what was on the menu of the inhabitants of Holašovice, how food was prepared and served. In the nineteenth century, the diet was dominated mainly by simple, local ingredients such as grain porridge, potatoes, cabbage, beans, bread, or pancakes. Popular meats included pork bacon or homemade lard, while cakes and buns were served for special occasions—some of these delicacies will also be part of our exhibition.

Another display shows examples of period clothing. You will see what costumes men, women, and children in Holašovice wore—from everyday work clothes to festive costumes with typical embroidered features and vibrant colors. The exhibition presents the different materials, craftsmanship, and the sense for detail revealed by these traditional costumes.

Come and immerse yourself in history and experience the atmosphere that still breathes from the houses of Holašovice today. The exhibition offers displays, photographs, and stories of local families whose lives were inseparably connected with this main room.
