Exhibition Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II

10. 5. - 2. 9. 2025

Holašovice became famous for their Folk Baroque architecture, but their history neither begins nor ends with the 19th-century reconstruction. The history of Holašovice dates back deep into the Middle Ages — the village was founded in the first half of the 13th century and originally built in the late Gothic style. Elements of this early design are still preserved today in the size and layout of the farmsteads and their parcel division (known as "zaháty").

Holašovice experienced hard times during the Thirty Years' War, when several farmsteads were burned down, and again during the two world wars. The second world war, in particular, brought significant changes that shaped both the village’s current population and, in part, its modern appearance.

World War II had a profound impact on the lives of the residents, and it is this period that will be the focus of a new exhibition hosted at the Tourist Information Centre (TIC), dedicated to the history of the village between 1938 and 1945.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II (May 8, 1945, in Europe and September 2, 1945, worldwide). To commemorate this occasion, our exhibition will be open to visitors from the beginning of May until the end of September.

Visitors will be able to view an original Wehrmacht uniform and equipment, as well as objects related to Holašovice's history during World War II, either discovered locally or passed down through generations.

Information panels will share stories of local people and their ancestors, memories of life in Holašovice and the surrounding area after incorporation into the Third Reich and following its collapse. There will also be books related to World War II history available, along with photographs provided by local residents and their descendants.
